Historical library of Göttingen University. Only books from before 1900 are stored here. Some 2 km books are in this room, about 1/4 natural history related.

Natural History section in the historical library, showing the basic works of Linnaeus (the open book on the shelf is Linnaeus 1758, Systema Naturae 10the edition, the zoological part).

The goobi workflow administration system

goobi was invented in Göttingen by Göttinger Digitalisierungszentrum (GDZ) to optimize and administrate workflow in literature digitisation projects. GDZ is the digitisation department of our University library SUB Göttingen.

For a short Power Point presentation (40 pp.) about functions, workflow system and powers of the goobi system see here.

It takes about 14-16 steps to digitize a work. Metadata generation and quality control steps are included in the digitisation process. It is not possible to digitize a work and forget to document the pagination or other important metadata.

Every book at each time receives a status in the goobi workflow system. The PPN numbers refer to the titles. At the same time the goobi system controls which person has done which work at which date.
